Just as technology is advancing, so are communicators’ required skills. As we talked about previously, the traditional skills of reading and writing are still very important. For better or worse, though, communicators need to adapt and learn how to make what they do matter. This return on investment idea relies on melding together traditional and contemporary skill sets. One of those skills that every communicator should have in their toolbox is an understanding of search engine optimization, better known as SEO. In the public relations world, practitioners need to know that the message they are putting out is being received. Thanks to technology, PR folks no longer need to depend solely on a reporter or wire service to pick up their press release. They have a newfound dissemination power!
